Ponderings from your Pastor

Recovering Hope In Louisiana Nine travelers from our congregation recently ventured to Houma, Louisiana to work with Presbyterian Disaster Assistance to help with recovery efforts after last year’s hurricanes. We went expecting heat mosquitoes and hard work. We were not disappointed.

Out of Chaos, HOPE

Carla Hallman told the congregation on Sunday: “Our church community went to visit, reaching out to another church community far away, a community that has experienced eeep suffering. We worked hard to help out, from putting up roofs to taping and floating, hanging paneling, putting up trim, laying floor tile, painting…painting…painting. Just a small contribution to the huge effort. We helped out in a small way to make a difference. Our eyes and heards are opened more fully. We see things differently now.”

Nan Knight spoke of the wonderful gifts that we received from this trop: “The feeling that God was with us. Even as we approached a sever storm in Houston on our way and thought of turning back, the hand of God was with us. We were given an assignment that we could handle. We were able to do significant work even with our diversity of skills and ages with the help of our leader John Boles. We experience a sense of community with all those who worked together, reminding us that we are a family in Christ in this church. And a great gift indeed, visiting with the Desil family and seeing the in a really good place with jobs and a new home.”

God had more in store for us than we had imagined when we left for Houma. We have stories to share of an experience that has changed us. The best news is that some of us want to go back and there is still a great deal of work to do. We hope that you will consider traveling with us next time!
