Many friends have asked me what is like to work for Ferry companies and as I don’t want to repeat myself several times I decided to write this very short article.

Like in any other job there are rules to follow and working a ship can very strict. I was in charge of taking pictures. I am a journalist with studies in photography and that’s how I got the job. It really depend on what kind of job you have, the location of your room. The chiefs are below the guests section. People that work in the cleaning department were at the bottom. So the more you earn the more facilities you have, or at least that’s how I see it.

A very nice time comes when the ship stops and you can leave the ferry to go and do tourism. The landscapes are amazing. I have very good photos. All the crew can leave and go to enjoy the beaches and the cities. I had to control myself because I like shopping a lot and there are so many nice things to buy that it was hard not to spend all my salary.

A good thing about working in a boat is that you don’t spend in anything. You are giving accommodation and food. We have a very nice breakfast in the morning to start the day at work. In general all the meals are very well prepared and you can eat as much as you want.

There are parties inside the ship that are specially held for crew members. If you want to drink you need to pay your own consumption so here you need to be careful. There are lots of people that come to work hard and save money so you see them with only one drink during the night. Well, who can blame them right? I mean I did it too because I wanted to arrive home with nice presents for my family.

The guests are really nice and they come from different parts of the world. I cannot say that they become your friends but they are very kind during the time that they are in the cruise. You are not really allowed to make friend with any of the guest or go to their rooms but you know how young people are so there are very cool anecdotes to tell. Some of my friend had what they call a summer fling. I personally didn’t have one because my objective was to take the work at Ferry companies as serious as possible because I want to have a higher position in the future so I cant really out at risk that dream.

Sometimes when we have an important date to celebrate as is our birthday or maybe an event to organize at work, we try to think about unusual ideas to surprise our guests. Ferry companies can offer us a different but economical option.

It really depends where you live and how close to the sea of a river you are. If you have the chance is worth asking to the local Ferry companies.

Imaging having you birthday party in a ferry in the middle of the sea under the moon light. Doesn’t it sound tempting? Well you might think it would be really expensive but it actually isn’t. People that like celebrating their birthday in a big way know how expensive it could be to hire someone to organize it or just to simply book a nice hotel or reception room for a party. Ferry companies do business mostly during the day when tourists want to have a small journey to take some pictures. At night the ferries are not being used so it is convenient for a company to hire it to you. That’s why they offer reasonable prices to attract some customers.

This is a very uncommon and creative idea that your friends will just love. It is not difficult at all to organize because a ferry is no different to any other reception room you might hire. You need basically the same things that can be coordinated with the company and your providers.

Maybe you need something more private like proposing to your girlfriend during a romantic meal. Having dinner in a ferry in the middle of the sea sounds very romantic. Actually nothing sounds more romantic than that. In the same way that a ferry can become a party dance floor, it can become a mini restaurant too.

If you have an event at work, this can also be organized in a ferry. Sometimes during certain dates, companies tend to celebrate their anniversaries or some kind of yearly celebration. This date is mostly before Christmas and after midyear break. This is well known by even organizers who raise their prices during those dates because they know that people will fight for a reservation. As doing an event on a ferry isn’t really thought by many people you might get date availability and a good price with no problems at all.
